After the birth of my second child I suffered such a severe diastasis recti (splitting of the abdominal wall) that I no longer could stand upright. This, coupled with a severe back and hip injury threatened to seriously impede my long term mobility. After the surgical repair of the injury, I felt “put together” but not whole. My core was weak and I felt as though I had no control over my body. For three weeks I have been regularly attending sessions at Quiet Earth Yoga, and I am not exaggerating when I say it is changing my life! Already, I feel an vast improvement and ownership of my body and health. For the first time in years, I’m feeling like I’m becoming stronger, an idea that I had previously abandoned. Amy Jirsa has given me more than day to day ways to improve my body and mind – she has given me the great gift of hope! I also find Quiet Earth Yoga to be extremely helpful as a theatre artist and would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, gentle place to learn to breath, grow and be present.

I highly recommend Quiet Earth Yoga to anyone looking for a place to practice yoga, as Amy is great at modifying poses to whatever level you are at. As a beginner, I wanted to take yoga classes from someone who was nurturing, kind, and ready to meet me where I am starting. Amy has always ensured that I knew how to modify the yoga poses for my beginner level.

I have found the Quiet Earth Yoga studio to be a comfortable and calming place. Attending a yoga class here is an absolute treat for the body and soul.  The relaxing colors, soft lighting, quiet music and pleasant scents only add to the experience.  Amy is a knowledgeable and comforting instructor who provides guidance in the practice of yoga for all skill levels.  I appreciate the variety of classes to choose from and her habit of providing modifications of poses.  I have learned relaxation techniques in her classes that are as usful when stuck in traffic as they are in the studio.

Amy is a well-versed herbalist.  During my first consult she recommended herbs and foods to help with anxiety, insomnia, menstrual problems and digestive issues.  She also gave me specific sources of the herbs and offered to provide them if I preferred.  I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I saw results by following her advice.

I have also recently consulted Amy with my prenatal needs.  She recommended many things to help with all my pregnancy symptoms.  She regularly provides answers to my herbal questions and recommends new herbs and foods to either add or avoid in order to alleviate some of pregnancy’s most annoying symptoms.  She has even provided teas to help with stress and heartburn.  And she gave me the most wonderful recipe for a stretch mark cream.  I have found her to be a great resource and cannot imagine how uncomfortable pregnancy would be without her.
