Instead of blocking it all, instead of screening with one opaque filter in the hopes of protecting ourselves, perhaps we could invite the light in. Perhaps we've become so used to darkness--or the expectation of darkness--that we can no longer judge how much light we need to survive, much less how to find it. How to let it in. How to allow, full stop.
Perhaps that's how we've become so ill, so discouraged--we've stopped expecting the light. And as soon as we got out of the habit of expecting, the world just stopped granting. What, after all, was the point?
It's not too late, though. It can never be too late. I have a feeling that the light will return--it's just waiting to be asked.
