I don't think we have to make ourselves miserable--or, worse, afraid--by sacrificing everything in order to evoke, to make room for change. Nor do I think we even need a conscious to-do list in our minds--all the "inferior" qualities we posses that must be purged before we're ready for the next thing. I used to think it worked like that, and now I'm not so sure.
Now I suspect that a good, healthy dose of curiosity matched with a good-natured willingness to let go when the time comes is all that's necessary. And I don't think it even has to be that deliberate or that active. Simply decide, say okay, and move on with the day. I think we'll surprise ourselves with the ease--and the relief--of what comes next.
